Two new oil/cold wax paintings have been delivered to Karan Ruhlen Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM.

Revisiting the sought-after “Chronos Series” from 2013, Martha has created a diptych on cradled panels. (Please visit the Oil/Cold Wax Gallery page for more pieces in this series.) An ongoing series, the concept of “time”, explores the sequential passage of time and its effects on our natural environment.

The artist has also finished a major oil/cold wax piece on canvas, measuring 74″ x 66″. White Village, Costa del Sol, was inspired by Martha’s recent travels to Malaga, Spain where she visited several of the famous white villages along the Mediterranean coast. In this large-scale painting, Martha has captured the colors, the unique light quality, the shapes and essence of the hillside coastal town.

Martha Rea Baker was recently featured in the October/November Home issue of the Santa Fean Magazine.

“All in the Family: a Santa Fe couple’s sons design their parents’ dream home”

Martha and Bill Baker’s three sons collaborated on the design of their home in The Art Barns at Old Road Ranch near Santa Fe, NM. Architects, William and Mark, conceived the modern take on the Northern New Mexico pitched roof farm-house, while Dave fabricated and installed the steel railing on the sunset deck.

The last page of the three-page article shows Martha working in her studio and mentions how this personal environment, designed by her sons, has inspired her art.

 STUDIO  TRES PICOS

Welcome to Studio  Tres Picos, the studio of  Martha Rea Baker in the Art Barns at Old Road Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico! From this site the artist will keep you informed on new work, exhibitions and events. What a joy to be painting in an area so rich in history and culture!

Martha is a visual artist creating abstract paintings in oil/cold wax, acrylic and encaustic.

With her move to Santa Fe in 2006, came an opportunity to study the art of painting with hot wax. Encaustic is an ancient medium of melted beeswax and resin, fused with heat. The luminosity, depth, and richness of color achieved by working with this process is difficult to duplicate in any other medium.

Martha has also added the process of mixing Gamblin cold wax medium with oil paint to achieve a rich textural surface. This mixture has proven excellent for expressing the passage of time and its effects on our environment.
