Pollination Encaustic Exhibit Final Days

Santa Fe friends and visitors, don’t miss this opportunity to view an excellent variety of encaustic paintings and sculpture at the Santa Fe Commission for the Arts Community Gallery at the Convention Center. The show ends August 20th, so time is short.

ARTslant, the online contemporary art network, favorably reviewed  the exhibit with the following words. “…this exhibit includes significant work that explores the ways encaustic is used today and has been  used historically.  I have to hand it to the gallery director for jurying and hanging this exciting exhibition. Each artist received ample space and it was worth the trip from Albuquerque. For those of you who may not be aware of this exhibition or the space, I encourage you to take a look at it. The Santa Fe Community Gallery is located at 201 West Marcy. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.”

New Encaustic Diptych

HOT off the easelMartha has recently completed a new encaustic diptych, continuing to work with the  silver metallic wax and influenced by the turquoise of the sky and the famous gemstones of the area. From the book, Turquiose Unearthed, an Illustrated Guide, we learn that, “To the native peoples of the American Southwest in particular, this “sky stone” is an ancient talisman for health and happiness, and for centuries it has been incorporated into both ceremonial and everyday jewelry, sculpture and pottery. Other cultures believe turquoise, one of the loveliest of gemstones, possesses protective powers.”
